March 2017: The Dashboard is going away

There are some very exciting changes coming with the updated version of Quartzy! However, the Dashboard will not make the transition, and will be removed from all versions of Quartzy on March 13, 2017.

Why is this happening?

We talked with hundreds of users and analyzed data on dashboard usage across the platform. While there are a small number of Groups that use the Dashboard, it was not providing value to the vast majority of users. Ultimately, we decided that maintaining it was holding us back from making critical improvements to the Inventory and Requests modules. If you’re in one of the Groups who used it, we know you won’t be happy with this change, and we sincerely apologize for any potential inconvenience. Rest assured, between Quartzy itself and other exceptional products on the market you should be able to replicate its functionality (see below).

When is it happening?

To move forward with the Quartzy update, we will need to remove the Dashboard from the current version of Quartzy, which will occur Monday, March 13.

I like the Dashboard. What can I do?

If you would like your Dashboard history sent to you as a CSV file, please email and we’ll send it along. Otherwise, here are some common ways people used the Quartzy Dashboard, along with some suggestions for how to do those things once the Dashboard goes away.

Common use for the Dashboard What you can do now
Notifying lab members about received orders and their locations Quartzy: When marking something as received, add a note and a location so the person who requested it knows it came in.
Special instructions for orders being placed Quartzy: When placing a request for an item, make sure to add a note! It will appear in your Requests module.
General lab announcements and conversations Slack (Free plan available) - We use this internally at Quartzy, and we love it

Hipchat (Free plan available)

Google Groups Not a chat service, but you can send announcements via email to your group, and keep a threaded conversation going

Will the Dashboard come back?

While the current implementation of the Dashboard will not return, we will be introducing features in the near future that serve many of the same purposes as the Dashboard served but will be focused on the Inventory and Requests modules. Some examples include:

  1. Threaded comments for each request
  2. @mentions within the comments
  3. Adding more people than just the requester to each request

What else is coming with the Quartzy update?

The updated Quartzy is much easier to navigate and much faster than the current version. For a sneak peak, click here! It will be rolling out over the next 2 months, and everybody will be on the updated version by May.

As always, we're happy to hear your feedback. Learning from you helps us make Quartzy better, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
